Inspiration is everywhere

What colours do you see when you look at a country scene?

Do you see flat greens in the grass, brown tree trunks and grey stone walls?

Look again.

Those grey stone walls have a mix of colours, greens, yellows, browns, whites, purples and many more. Look closely at the tree trunks, not only are they a host to creatures and fungi but they too have a mix of colours similar to the stone walls. The grass may be green but it's a mix of blue and yellow tones. Depending on the direction of the light and shade, the colours will change.

What you see today, may appear different tomorrow.

Learn to look and you will find an abundance of inspiration around you. If you always keep a notebook with you record what you see, and use the observations for art, writing, craft, music...

Prague

My finished notebook from a trip to Prague became a work book of ideas when I got home.

The top middle picture was a sculpture exhibition in one of the streets. I took a few photos and then cut, arranged and pasted them on to the page. As i was doing so a plot was emerging for a ghost story.

The negative prints of trees top right and bottom left were also used in the plot, and the 'Glen of Lost Souls' short story won me a place on the long list of a competition.

Japanese fable.
The inspiration came from watching our tropical fish having a frenzy of jumping and diving as we added water to the tank after cleaning them.

A Felted scarf sculpture.
In the Japanese fable coi carp tried to reach the top of the waterfall...
In case you cant see it, the orange is the coi carp the white the froth and foam from the waterfall.
It is designed to drape over a table from under a fish tank.
